Forty Hours Devotion at Holy Innocents (NYC) - Opening Votive Mass of the Most Blessed Sacrament

On Friday, October 23rd, 2015, the Church of the Holy Innocents its Forty Hours Devotion with the opening Votive Mass of the Most Blessed Sacrament. After the Holy Mass, there was continuous all-night adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Thanks to the many dedicated and committed parishioners of Holy Innocents, there were always enough people throughout the night to keep Vigil before the Most Blessed Sacrament. Everything (Holy Mass, serving, music, etc.) was done with great reverence and devotion.

Church of the Holy Innocents (NYC) - Masses & Events for October 2015

CHURCH OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS

UPCOMING MASSES & EVENTS

1. Movie NightBeginning in October, Movie Night will move to the third Fridays of each month.  This month, the movie is The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima, the 1952 dramatization of the story of Fatima.  The movie will be shown on Friday, October 16th after the 6 PM Mass to mark the 98th Anniversary that week of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima on October 13, 1917.

2. Book Club – The new book for the Holy Innocents’ Book Club is Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux. The Book Club’s next meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 after the 6 PM Mass.

Copies of the book will be available in the parish office.

3. Forty Hours Devotion This year, the Church of the Holy Innocents will have its Forty Hours Devotion on the weekend of the Feast of Christ the King.

The opening Mass will be on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 at 6:00 PM. On Saturday, October 24th, we will have the traditional Mass Pro pace at 1:00 PM. The closing Mass will be coram Sanctissimo (in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed) on Sunday, October 25 at 10:30 AM (Feast of Christ the King).

We need parishioners to sign up for the rotation to keep vigil before the Blessed Sacrament on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Keep in mind that this is a very important devotion in the life of the Church and in the life of a parish. It is also a very rare devotion these days, when it is needed the most, especially in its traditional form.

This devotion was permanently established by Pope Clement VIII “in order that day and night the faithful might appease their Lord by prayer before the Blessed Sacrament solemnly exposed, imploring there His divine mercy.

If you have never been to 40 Hours before, this will be a good time to be part of it. If you have done it already, you can be a part again -- the more, the merrier. The devotion is to be celebrated with as much solemnity as possible.

Forty Hours 2014 at Holy Innocents in NYC - Closing Mass coram Sanctissimo

These are the pictures of the closing Mass of the 40 Hours Devotion (Prayer) at the Church of the Holy Innocents. The 40 Hours went from Friday, November 7th, 2014 till Sunday, November 9th, 2014.

At this closing Mass coram Sanctissimo (this past Sunday), there were 210 people in attendance, and there was a very nice Coffee Hour at the end, before which the Angelus was recited and the food blessed (as can be seen from the last pictures).
