REPORT: Rorate Masses at Holy Innocents (2017)

CHURCH OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS

REPORT: RORATE MASSES AT HOLY INNOCENTS 2017

Holy Innocents has scheduled 10 traditional Rorate Masses (all at 6AM) this Advent (2017). It may seem a bit “ambitious” because, you might ask, who in his/her right mind will want to get up at around 4AM in the morning and travel some distance to attend the 6AM Rorate Mass, right?

Well, many of the faithful parishioners at Holy Innocents (and some of their friends) have made the sacrifice to attend several (some have the intention to attend all) of the Rorate Masses – an excellent and very Catholic way to prepare for Christmas!

So far, we have had two (2) Rorate Masses and still have eight (8) more to go.

The attendance for the Rorate Masses has been as follows:
Monday, Dec. 4 at 6AM – Sung Mass; 45 people.
Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6AM – Sung Mass; 43 people.

For those considering attending any of the eight (8) remaining Rorate Masses, below are the remaining days on which the Rorate Mass will be offered:

·         Wednesday, December 6 at 6AM
·         Thursday, December 7 at 6AM
·         Saturday, December 9 at 6AM
·         Monday, December 11 at 6AM
·         Wednesday, December 13 at 6AM
·         Thursday, December 14 at 6AM
·         Friday, December 15 at 6AM
·         Saturday, December 16 at 6AM
Below are some photos of the beautiful and inspiring Rorate Masses:

FORTY HOURS EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION 2017 - NYC

CHURCH OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS
(128 West 37th Street, NYC)
FORTY HOURS EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION

The Church of the Holy Innocents will start its Forty Hours Devotion THIS COMING FRIDAY NIGHT.

First Day: The opening Mass will be this coming Friday, October 27, 2017 at 6PM, and it will be a Votive Mass of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

At the end of the opening Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, there will be a solemn Eucharistic procession inside the church, and the Pange lingua, the Litany of the Saints, and some other special psalms, versicles, and prayers will be chanted.

Second Day: Then, on Saturday, October 28 at 1PM, we will have the traditional Votive Mass Pro Pace.

Third Day: The closing Mass will be on Sunday, October 29 at 10:30AM, which will also be the 1st class Feast of Christ the King. This closing Mass will be celebrated coram Sanctissimo (in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed throughout the entire Mass).

At the end of the closing Mass, the Litany of the Saints and other special psalms and prayers will be chanted and we will have another Procession of the Blessed Sacrament inside the church. This Procession will end with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Divine Praises, and the recitation of the Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

While in the Roman Catholic Church there are many Feasts and devotions throughout the year, the Forty Hours Devotion is always awaited and received with extreme joy. “Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament,” according to Fr. Faber, “is the queen of all devotions. It is the central devotion of the Church. All others gather round it and group themselves there as satellites; for others celebrate His Mysteries; this is Himself.

The Forty Hours Devotion is surrounded with three special dimensions:
1) The protection from evil and temptation;
2) Reparation for our own sins and for the poor souls in purgatory; and
3) Deliverance from political, material and spiritual calamities.

All these petitions (for ourselves, for our neighbors, and for the entire Church) are expressed in detail in the beautiful Litanies of the Saints that are chanted as part of the opening and the closing Masses for the Forty Hours.

The very active and vibrant Church of the Holy Innocents (NYC) is still the only parish in the entire Archdiocese of NY that has the Forty Hours Devotion in its traditional form. The Forty Hours Devotion was permanently established by Pope Clement VIII “in order that day and night the faithful might appease their Lord by prayer before the Blessed Sacrament solemnly exposed, imploring there His divine mercy.”

O Antiphon Dinner at the Church of the Holy Innocents (NYC) on Thursday, December 17, 2015

Below are some pictures of the events that took place at the Church of the Holy Innocents (NYC) on Thursday, December 17, 2015 (the beginning of the O Antiphons).

The evening started with a Solemn Mass celebrated by our Pastor Fr. Leonard Villa. Fr. Stephen Saffron was the Deacon, and Fr. Christopher Salvatori was the Subdeacon.

The purpose of the Dinner was to show gratitude for the Priests who have helped at Holy Innocents (particularly with the traditional Mass) throughout the year.

Holy Innocents' Regina Coeli Council (#423) of the Knights of Columbus sponsored its 2nd Annual "O Antiphon" Dinner on December 17th to honor/thank the priests who celebrate the Traditional Mass at Holy Innocents.
Tickets for the Dinner sold out nearly a week before the Dinner.  Holy Innocents'  Church Hall, home of the parish's Thrift Shop, was transformed for the blacktie Dinner.

Tables were nicely and neatly set

Among the priests attending the dinner were Fr. Leonard Villa, Pastor of the Church of the Holy Innocents, Canon Wulfran Lebocq, ICK, Canon Jean-Marie Moreau, ICK, Fr. Richard Munkelt, Fr. Robert Rodriguez, Fr. Stephen Saffron, Fr Christopher Salvatori, CAS, Fr. Marion Wierzchowski, CAS, and Fr. John Zuhlsdorf.

Every Priest who attended the dinner received a gift (a copy of Cardinal Sarah's excellent book God or Nothing).

The Dinner was a fundraiser to help restore Holy Innocents' Msgr. Dineen Monstrace.  Msgr. Aloysius Dineen — who was himself a life-long member of the Regina Coeli Council — commissioned the Monstrance during his term as Pastor of the Church of the Holy Innocents from 1931 - 1951.

After hors d'houvres, Fr. Villa blessed the food and then many of the Priests in attendance joined Holy Innocents' Schola singing the Magnificat with the O Antiphon for December 17th (O Sapientia) facing the statue of Our Lady.

The main cake (there were two!) had the beginning of the O Antiphon for that day written on it. The cake was delicious!

At the end of the evening, there was a drawing for four (4) premium tickets ($200 each) to a performance of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular given by an anonymous donor to support the Dinner.  Anthony Fountain and Vladimir Quirico each won two tickets.
