Interesting pictures; just a few comments:
I'm not sure the coronation photo is for Pius X's coronation - iot looks more like Pius XI.
The bishop being ordained by Pius X in the Sistine Chapel is Giacomo della Chiesa - the future Benedict XV.
The throne pictured may have been used by Pius X and Pius XII, but it belonged to Leo XIII. I know this because:
1 It has Leo's stemma on the back;
2 Leo is mentioned in the writing beneath the picture.
Likewise the tiara also has Pope Leo's stemma.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the specific comments!
The picture of the coronation was taken from a book on the life of St. Pius X. The picture has been very clearly retouched and that's why it's not very easy to see the familiar face of Pius X. (The book was written before Pius XI became Pope).
The throne belonged to Pius X; the sedia (which is the one I think you are referring to) does have Leo's coat of arms. I have modified the information accordingly. And the tiara, too. I have seen other pictures of Leo XIII wearing that same tiara.
Did the have microphones in 1903 to announce to public at the Piazza the election of the new Pope? How did they announce the elections in the no-microphone era?
Wow awesome pictures. I would like to use them if you dont mind on my blog when I talk about the Sedia Gestatoria if you don't mind and the triple crown of the Pope.
@ Humboldt: I would not know about that. Probably, they just made the announcement without microphones.
@smiley: You may use any pictures you would like.
